Deadly mistakes plague hospitals

The American healthcare system is starting to resemble a game of Russian roulette, right down to the stakes: your life.
The National Academies’ Institute of Medicine estimates that there are 400,000 preventable drug-related injuries every year. Another study found a 1-in-30 chance that your prescription will be filled out wrong.

And those aren’t even the most appalling numbers.

I nearly fell out of my chair when I read “Dead by Mistake,” an investigation by Hearst newspaper and TV reporters that found some 200,000 preventable deaths caused by medical injuries and accidents each year.

It’s nearly 10 percent of our deaths overall. That’s more people than are killed bydiabetesAlzheimer’s disease, influenza and pneumonia combined.

In one tragic and inexcusable case, two pregnant women in a Florida hospital were accidentally given drugs designed to force dead fetuses out of the body. One of the women was pregnant with twins, and lost both babies. The other gavepremature birth to a girl who suffered severe brain damage.

The hospital blamed poor handwriting on the doctor’s prescription, which led to a mix-up in the drugs.

Enough’s enough. I’m tired of all the stupid jokes about doctors and their terrible handwriting. Until doctors learn to write legibly, they have no business prescribing drugs.

Computerized systems, where doctors can order meds by typing rather than scribbling, can help prevent these mistakes, but most hospitals are still in the digital Stone Age. A paltry 10 percent of them have these systems in place.

That’s outrageous and unacceptable. Fast-food restaurants are more technologically advanced than our hospitals.

This is just one more reason you should hammer your doctors and nurses with questions, especially when they give you meds — and don’t swallow anything until you’re satisfied with the answers.

Ask what you’re being given, what it does and if there are any side effects (you can bet your bottom that there will be). Then ask to see the label. It’s your right, and if they can’t or won’t show it to you, refuse to take it.

And if you’re not in any condition to check up on these things yourself, have someone with you who can.

It’s inexcusable that it has to be that way. But the alternative is that deadly game you can’t afford to play.

National Level Exercise 2009 (NLE 09)

October 23, 2009 · Leave a Comment

(From www.fema.gov.)

National Level Exercise 2009 (NLE 09) is scheduled for July 27 through July 31, 2009. NLE 09 will be the first major exercise conducted by the United States government that will focus exclusively on terrorism prevention and protection, as opposed to incident response and recovery.

NLE 09 is designated as a Tier I National Level Exercise. Tier I exercises (formerly known as the Top Officials exercise series or TOPOFF) are conducted annually in accordance with the National Exercise Program (NEP), which serves as the nation’s overarching exercise program for planning, organizing, conducting and evaluating national level exercises. The NEP was established to provide the U.S. government, at all levels, exercise opportunities to prepare for catastrophic crises ranging from terrorism to natural disasters.

NLE 09 is a White House directed, Congressionally- mandated exercise that includes the participation of all appropriate federal department and agency senior officials, their deputies, staff and key operational elements.  In addition, broad regional participation of state, tribal, local, and private sector is anticipated.  This year the United States welcomes the participation of Australia, Canada, Mexico and the United Kingdom in NLE 09.

Time Management is Everything

October 23, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Are you being distracted? The number one thing that brings people down is distraction. What in your life is essential and what is unessential? Lop off that which is unessential, and focus on building your spiritual and physical wealth. Remember: this world is full of parasites. Everyone wants a piece of the pie. Many people are willing to go to great lengths to get it. Some are willing to steal it by way of force or fraud. Do not be deceived. Do not patronised merchants who sell specious goods. Conserve your time and conserve your money. Get married and stay married. Have kids and focus on raising those kids. Put everything that you have into the family. Make the health of the family a motivating factor for everything you do. Buy only from merchants whom you trust. Do not buy from merchants who engage in immoral behavior, such as hiring third worlders over more intelligent and wise men who are worth the investment. Buy locally. Buy organic. Nix luxuries. Nix sports/gambling. Focus on essentials.

Yahoo News Accidentally Reposts G-20 Story as Today’s News

October 23, 2009 · Leave a Comment

PITTSBURGH – Police fired canisters of pepper spray and smoke at marchers protesting the Group of 20 summit Thursday after anarchists responded to calls to disperse by rolling trash bins and throwing rocks.

The march turned chaotic at just about the time that President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama arrived for a meeting with leaders of the world’s major economies.

The clashes began after hundreds of protesters, many advocating against capitalism, tried to march from an outlying neighborhood toward the convention center where the summit is being held.

One World Government Nearer than You Think

Lord Christopher Monckton recently spoke at an event put on by the Minnesota Free Market Institute, he SHREDDED the whole “Global Warming” theory, he was great! But it was his closing statement that shocked me.

When I started Minnesotan’s For Global Warming, I knew the whole Global Warming theory was a joke. It was easy to make fun of the whole thing, especially with a cooling planet, and to portray Al Gore as a buffoon. Little did I realize that the “Global Warming” theory would be the excuse needed to set up a One World Communistic Government.

Oswald, the CIA, and Kennedy

In my recent article on Lee Harvey Oswald and the CIA, I raised the possibility that Oswald was working deep undercover for the CIA when he defected to the Soviet Union and then returned to the United States as a communist sympathizer. There are a few other things about Oswald that have long mystified me.

Interracial couple denied marriage license in La.

Not all races are equal. There are average mental differences between the races. Intelligence is distributed like a bell curve. The bell curve of one race would overlap with that of another race, such that ugly and stupid members of the superior race are about equal in merit to the attractive and smart members of the inferior race, but those people can still find a mate within their own race that would be suitable for them. Thus, because no one really knows exactly where he or she resides on a bell curve, he should give himself the benefit of the doubt, in the case that one underestimates one’s mating merit, and mate with a member of his or her own race.

Apparently, if you’re a socialist TelePrompTer-reading Negro, not only do you get jobs and positions you don’t deserve; you get prizes you don’t deserve. Thank you leftist scum bags! Thank you for giving the peace prize to someone who has continued the useless wars in the Middle East and has overseen unprecedented police action and theft against the Americans whom he allegedly represents! To the puppet goes the spoils! Now we know more than ever before that the Nobel Peace Prize Committee is comprised of a bunch of leftist idiots.

Pittsburgh = Kent State

October 2, 2009 · Leave a Comment

It’s time to privatise the police and to prosecute them for police brutality. Of course, justified acts of force should not be prosecuted, but unjustified acts of force should be severely prosecuted. From Wikipedia:

The Kent State shootings, also known as the May 4 massacre or Kent-State massacre,[2][3][4] occurred at Kent State University in the city of Kent, Ohio, and involved the shooting of unarmed college students by members of the Ohio National Guard on Monday, May 4, 1970. The guardsmen fired 67 rounds over a period of 13 seconds, killing four students and wounding nine others, one of whom suffered permanent paralysis.[5]

Some of the students who were shot had been protesting against the American invasion of Cambodia, which President Richard Nixon announced in a television address on April 30. However, other students who were shot had merely been walking nearby or observing the protest from a distance.[6][7]

There was a significant national response to the shootings: hundreds of universities, colleges, and high schools closed throughout the United States due to a student strike of four million[8] students, and the event further divided the country, at this already socially contentious time, along political lines.
